A paedophile who was jailed after he was caught with thousands of child porn images is running a website offering advice about parenting.

David Crouch, 54, owns Baby 2 See, a pregnancy and baby information site, which has its own Facebook and Twitter pages so parents can get in touch and post pictures.

He is on the sex offenders’ register and is banned for life from working with children after police found 5,000 vile images on his computers. Among them were some showing the worst levels of sexual abuse, including young victims being tortured.

Yet he claims police have given the green light to his involvement in the website.

A former friend of Crouch who contacted the Sunday Mirror said: “He should not be allowed to run these sites. It is absolutely disgusting. I’m sure young mums who are looking at the site don’t know about the man who runs it. They would be horrified.”

As well as Baby 2 See, dad-of-three Crouch is also listed as the owner of seven other sites, including one called parents2be.com.

Crouch was jailed for 16 months in July 2007. He pleaded guilty to one charge of possessing indecent images of children and 12 of making indecent images.

A court was told he was traced by German authorities after downloading photographs and videos of children being abused from a German website. The Baby 2 See website is also registered in Germany.

His details were passed to police who raided his home in Northampton and seized his computers. His lawyer said Crouch became obsessed with child porn sites after his marriage ended and he was made redundant.

Jim Gamble, former head of the police’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection unit, and now head of safety and security consultants Ineqe, said: “Once someone has been caught for an offence of this nature, looking at images and many of which are in the worst category, I believe they can not be rehabilitated.”

Crouch confirmed to the Sunday Mirror that he is banned from any contact with under-18s. He said he initially designed the website for someone else and claimed it is a search engine, not an information site.

“I do not work with children on the website,” he said. “The police looked at the website when I was convicted and were OK with it. I would never want to break my order.”

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Lingley, of Northamptonshire Police, said: “We are unable to discuss the specifics of individual cases but I want to reassure people that we take our responsibility around the management of registered sex offenders very seriously and the protection of the public is always our paramount concern.”
