A paedophile who indecently touched two schoolgirls in the 90s has been jailed.
Christopher Burton, 56, of Colyton, Devon, was sentenced to five years in prison for indecently assaulting the two girls who were 12 and 13 at the time.
Burton also acted indecently with one of the victims in 1988 when she was five.
The offences – which all took place in Cambridge – were set to be detailed during a trial at the beginning of the month at the city’s crown court before Burton dramatically changed his plea.
Michael Magee, mitigating, said: “He stopped the touching on his own and it never progressed.”
Burton has previously served time for drug offences and was released in 2001.
He started a new life in Devon and had been in a long-term relationship since 2004, which ended as a result of the indecent assaults coming to light.
In mitigation, Mr Magee urged Judge Anthony Bate to consider the offences as one continuous fault.
Mr Magee said: “This will destroy the steps he has made to rebuild his life and his family relationships will be shattered.
“He will have to live with the shame of his conduct.”
Judge Bate sentenced Burton consecutively, to 15 months for one offence of indecency with a child, and 15 months for indecently assaulting a child.
The indecent assault on the then 12-year-old got Burton two-and-a-half years.
He has also been given an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order which prevents him from being in contact with any child under 16 or entering a property where there is a child under 16 present.
