A SUSPENDED Aberchirder police sergeant has denied possessing child porn at his home.

Neil Shand (51), whose address in court papers was 28 North Street, pleaded not guilty at Banff Sheriff Court last week to allegedly keeping illicit photos of youngsters over a two-year period.

Shand denied two charges, the first was possessing indecent pictures of children at his house between December 2008 and December 2010.

He also denied taking or permitting to be taken indecent photos of youngsters at his home over the same time.

Shand was first charged with the alleged offences more than two years ago and since then the case has been shelved twice and adjourned on numerous occasions.

Shand’s defence team said he has not been well enough to attend court.

He was absent when the case called again at the court last Thursday and his defence agent George Mathers tendered a plea of not guilty.

Mr Mathers said: “Medical reports have been lodged with the court indicating why Mr Shand is absent.

“This case has went on for some time first being called on petition and then summary, and has been continued without plea numerous times.

“It is accepted it cannot go on like this again and he pleads not guilty.”

The trial has been scheduled for November 20.
