A PERVERT who abused a boy more than 30 years ago has been jailed for 32 months.
George Summers was 18 and his victim 10 when the abuse took place, Durham Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Gavin Doig said Summers showed the boy pornographic videos before forcing him to take part in sex acts.
“The victim was embarrassed and ashamed by what happened,” added Mr Doig.
“He told no one of it until he happened to see Summers last year and recognised him.
“At that time, the victim told his wife and mother. A few months later he was drunk in the street and police were called to attend to him.
“It was then the victim told police what had happened more than 30 years ago.”
Summers’ case was delayed several times after he declared himself unwell on the day of his court appearance.
Summers, 51, of Conyers Crescent, Chester-le-Street, admitted four charges of indecent assault, and one charge of gross indecency.
Tom Moran, defending, said in mitigation: “Mr Summers has found it very difficult to come to terms with what he has done.
“He cares for his elderly parents and has not yet told his mother that he is in court.
“Mr Summers is gay and at the time of the offences was trying to work out his sexuality.
“He was only 18 at the time, only just an adult, and the court might think that makes him less culpable than if he was in his 20s or older.”
Summers was also made the subject of 10-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order which bans unsupervised contact with boys under 16. He will be automatically banned from working with children, and must register as a sex offender for life.
