A BOOTLE man is “ecstatic’’ after being cleared of allegations that he sexually abused three young girls.

Martin Philips, 42, of Summer Hill, had been charged with one count of indecent assault and two counts of indecency with a child dating back to the 1980s.

The jury returned a not guilty verdict for each of the charges following a week-long trial.

Mr Philips, who owned Devonshire Saw Mill in Millom, claimed the allegations had been part of a “vendetta’’ against him. Speaking after the verdict, he said: “I’m absolutely ecstatic. These allegations have made every member of my family’s life a complete misery since April last year.

“I’m beside myself, I can’t think of the words to express how relieved I am.’’

His fiancé, Charlotte Gawthrop, 28, who has a five-year-old daughter with Mr Philips, said: “Now the truth has finally come out and he can get home to his little girl. We can get married now
