A Stamford man who admitted sharing images of child pornography with other internet users was today (Friday) jailed for two years.

Christopher Dawber, 39, was caught with nearly 200 indecent images of children after police executed a search warrant at his then home in Melbourne Road.

Lincoln Crown Court heard Dawber initially tried to thwart the police by leaving a note which read “throw my laptop.”

Phil Howes, prosecuting, said the laptop was seized from the kitchen after officers entered the property.

When analysed the computer was found to contain 197 indecent images of children which included two moving videos.

The images included 40 at the most serious levels of four and five, Mr Howes told the court.

Among them were images of girls as young as four and five years old, the court heard.

During police interview Dawber who now lives in Stockport, Greater Manchester, admitted swapping images with seven or eight other users and accepted “they got younger and younger”.

Mark Watson, mitigating, said Dawber was not involved in any commercial distribution of the images.

“The numbers were not large,” Mr Watson added.

Dawber, formerly of Melbourne Road, Stamford, admitted possessing images of children for show, incitement to distribution, possessing 197 indecent images, possessing six extreme pornographic images and seven charges of making indecent images.

The offences occurred between November 2011 and April last year.

Passing sentence Judge Michael Heath told Dawber: “For your own sexual gratification, and that is clear from the chat logs, you engaged in this activity.

“It may have been fantasy for you and the other people involved but these are real children who are grossly and grievously abused.”

Dawber was also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order which will restrict his access to the internet once he is released from prison.
