Rapist Colin Trotman kitted the BMW with television and modified sound system to lure his victims inside

A predator who used his BMW car to entice girls for sex pleaded with a judge to be allowed to keep the vehicle when he was jailed for a string of attacks.

Colin Trotman said through his lawyer that the car, which had a modified sound system and even a TV to help him impress victims, had only sentimental value.

But Judge John Lodge, sitting at Basildon crown court, jailed Trotman for ten years and ordered the destruction of the vehicle.

He said: “Is it appropriate to keep a car where someone has taken advantage of girls in a vehicle which has been designed to be smart and attractive to lure young people?

A judge has ordered the destruction of an old BMW used by a sexual predator to entice teenage girls.
Colin Trotman, sentenced to 10 years for a series of sex attacks, made a plea for the car to be spared
Convicted: Colin Trotman was sentenced to 10 years in prison

“I am authorising its forfeiture and destruction.”

Trotman, 45, and accomplice Reynold Dyett, 56, both from east London, cruised around Southend between July and November, 2012, picking up girls as young as 14 and then plying them with alcohol before having sex.

Trotman was jailed for 10 years for rape and was given concurrent sentences for sexual activity with a child, facilitating sex with a child and producing cannabis plants.

Dyett was jailed for six years for each of three charges of sexual activity with a girl, all to run concurrently.

The judge told the men: “You engaged with young girls who were vulnerable.

“They themselves were children who had issues with drink consumption.

“They were easy meat for your tactics of ensnaring them. You had absolutely no regard to how old they were.

“Lengthy sentences must follow to ensure that, as far as the court and public are concerned, the message goes out that such behaviour can never be tolerated.”

Outside court, Det Chief Insp Simon Werrett, who led the police investigation, said: “I am pleased with the sentences.

“They are a despicable pair of individuals who are incarcerated in prison and society is now protected from them.

“They are clearly, manipulative, dangerous men who will have many years to reflect upon the utter distress they have caused to many people.”
