Sex with animals banned in Denmark after outcry over legal loophole: Minister acts after country became magnet for sex tourists

  • Minister outlaws practice claiming country’s reputation was suffering
  • Also said bestiality ‘constitutes an attack’ as animals cannot give consent
  • Sex with animals banned in England since 1290 during reign of Edward I
  • But other EU countries such as Germany only enforced ban in recent years

Denmark has finally vowed to ban sex with animals because the practice is ‘damaging the country’s reputation’ as well as being non-consensual.

The country has become a magnet for animal sex tourists in recent years and has even seen a surge in animal brothels – as bestiality is banned almost everywhere else in Europe.

Danish agricultural minister Dan Jorgensen said he will outlaw the act – closing the legal loophole following mounting pressure from the international community.

He told Danish daily Ekstra Bladet: ‘I have decided that we should ban sex with animals. This is because it constitutes an attack on the animal, which naturally cannot consent to sex.

‘It is also damaging to our country’s reputation to allow this practice to continue here while it is banned elsewhere.’

A recent Gallup opinion poll revealed that 76 per cent of Danes supported a ban on animal sex.

The bill, which also requires changes in the country’s welfare animal laws, will be introduced by the Danish government in 2015.

Speaking in a VICE documentary, Danish animal rights activist Karoline Lundstrom recently commented: ‘I don’t think the Danish government is doing enough to protect the animals.

‘They need to do something to protect zoophilia in Denmark.’

Bestiality has been illegal in England since 1290 under the reign of Edward I, but many of our European neighbours including France, Germany, Belgium and Holland have only outlawed the practice in the last ten years.

Sweden banned zoophilia, another term describing sex with animals, in April 2014 in a move backed by the country’s Rural Affairs Minister, Eskil Erlandsson.

‘There should be no doubt whatsoever that bestiality is unacceptable,’ The Local cited him as saying.

In 2012 the same ban was passed in Germany.

Chancellor Angela Merkel’s government introduced the new law against the practice, saying animals should not be used ‘for personal sexual activities or made available to third parties for sexual activities… thereby forcing them to behave in ways that are inappropriate to their species.’

Bestiality is still legal in Finland, Hungary and Romania.

Child porn man unmasked

Published July 22, 2013 by misty534

A SEX offender who tried to hide behind a “super-injunction” can today be unmasked after a judge refused to make a gagging order.

David Redbond – who was caught with child pornography and images of bestiality – wanted to remain anonymous and to be treated differently from all other defendants.

But a judge at Grimsby Crown Court ruled that it would be an affront to the idea of open justice to treat Redbond differently from everybody else.

Redbond, 65, of Chester Place, Cleethorpes, had successfully obtained a gagging order from Grimsby magistrates.

His solicitor, Roy Foreman, had claimed that day that Redbond should not be named, apparently because of a supposed need to protect his relatives.

But recorder Euan Duff strongly criticised the move and told the higher court: “It’s a complete mystery why this defendant should not be identified.”

He agreed with a Grimsby Telegraph application that Redbond should not be allowed to hide behind a cloak of anonymity.

“The starting point in courts is that we have open justice and proper reporting of all matters that can be reported,” said recorder Duff.

“It’s fundamental to open justice. It’s a matter of public importance.”

It could be “counter-productive” to make such gagging applications because “it attracts more attention”.

The Telegraph was supported by prosecutor Jeremy Evans who said: “This is the equivalent of a super-injunction and it’s miraculous how he has managed to get anonymity in the magistrates’ court.”

It appeared that Redbond wanted anonymity because of his “name itself” and because it “stands out”.

He added: “That’s no reason. It forms no grounds. This case is no different from anybody else. The starting point is open justice and justice must be seen to be done.”

A pensioner has appeared in court facing 12 charges of possessing indecent images of children and extreme animal pornography.

Arthur Barnes is accused of 10 counts of possessing images of children, and two of possessing pictures showing a person having sex with an animal.

Barnes, aged 65, of Martial Daire Boulevard, Brackley, was arrested in August 2011 after his wife told police she had suspicions he was interested in indecent images, Northampton Magistrates’ Court heard on Friday.

Barnes did not enter any pleas, and will appear at Northampton Crown Court later this month. He was released on bail, under the conditions that he does not access the internet or have any unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 17.

A Cambridgeshire man has pleaded guilty to having over 200,000 indecent images of children on his computer.

Tomasz Olszewski, 33, of Huddleston Way, Sawston, admitted to possessing 17 movies on June 13 last year, and intending to distribute them to others at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday.

The 33-year-old had already pleaded guilty to possessing 84,333 indecent images of children, making 141,780 images, possessing 13 extreme pictures of dogs and horses and a further 39 prohibited images of children, on March 3.

These images were made between February 29 and June 14 2012.

Sara Walker, prosecuting, said: “This defendant first found the images on a music sharing website. He saw them accidentally and then his curiosity got the better of him.”

The images included 1,826 at level five, the most severe category, 21,401 at level four, 19,797 at level three, 3,683 at level two and 179,151 level one images.

Charles Myatt, mitigating, explained that Olszewski did not realise that using the images in his personal folder on the sharing website would broadcast them to others who searched for pictures in that genre.

He said: “This man is a Polish national, and he has been in England since 2007.

“He has been employed throughout his time here and he lives with his brother and partner, and there are no children in the house. It was curiosity more than anything else.”

Olszewski was released on bail, pending pre-sentence and pyschiatric reports.

Sentencing is scheduled for the week ending May 24.

Judge Anthony Bate, presiding, said: “You should be aware that these offences you admit cross the custody threshold, and you are in peril of a sentence of immediate imprisonment.

“It is in your interest that you are absolutely frank about what you did and why you did it.

“That way, it will help the court in relation to the risk you may pose and indicate any help that it may be useful for you to have.”

Miss Walker explained that the last case in Cambridge Crown Court that dealt with such a high volume of material was that of 18-year-old Kieran Lynch, who had more than 60,000 images of child porn and a ‘paedophile guide’ downloaded onto his computer.

Police raided Lynch’s home, on Stevenson Court, Cambridge, on July 4 last year and found he had possessed and made 64,118 indecent images, 488 images at level five, as well as 6,167 at level four, 4,078 at level three, 4,565 at level two and 48,802 at level one.

The ‘paedophile guide’ gave instructions on how to identify a victim and go on to subject them to further abuse.

Lynch was sentenced to three years in prison, for 12 counts of making and possessing indecent images after pleading guilty on February 7.

A Gainsborough man who admitted making child pornography using girls as young as three must sign the sex offenders register for five years.

Richard Bugg, has also confessed to possessing extreme images – including animal porn.

Some of the children involved in the sick images were as young as three-years-old.

The 37-year-old, of Campbell Street in Gainsborough, was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday 2nd April .

Judge Neil Clark sentenced Bugg to a community order with a supervision requirement for three years.

He ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for five year and is to be the the subject of a sexual prevention order until further notice.

The court heard at an earlier hearing the defendant originally denied the charges but later he changed his mind and pleaded guilty to 20 counts of making indecent images of children on or before 6th October, 2011.

The girls involved were aged between three and 15-years-old.

Bugg also confessed to having 3,063 level one photographs, one level 2 photograph, ten level three photographs and two level four photographs.

Images classed as level four show sex involving a child and adult.

Bugg also owned up to ten counts of possessing extreme pornographic images, including 65 level five bestiality pictures.

The court heard he admitted accessing a website that showed “adult bestiality” and there was evidence he had gone to a second website, although it was not made clear if he had been forcibly re-directed by his web browser or not.
