A SEX offender who posed as a young girl to chat to a 13-year-old girl online has been warned he could be jailed.

A judge has postponed sentencing on Sunderland man Bryan Hill in a bid to determine the reasons behind his compulsive obsession with child pornography.

The 55-year-old was caught with hundreds of indecent images of children and asked police to “lock me up and throw away the key”.

Hill had already served time in prison for a similar offence and was banned from owning any equipment which could be used to store images.

But when police visited his home, he confessed to having a laptop. Checks revealed this contained 410 sickening images and 35 depraved films of children being abused.

One of the films was classed as level five – the most serious – and one film and three images were categorised as extreme pornography.

Hill, of Tatham Street, Sunderland, admitted 11 charges when he appeared at Sunderland Magistrates’ Court, including breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

He also admitted he had posed as a young girl to chat to a 13-year-old schoolgirl online.

At Newcastle Crown Court, Hill’s legal team asked for a delay in sentencing so he could be assessed by a neuropsychologist who specialises in this type of behaviour.

Christopher Morrison, defending, said: “There are clearly overtones of compulsive behaviour in these matters.”

The court heard, in 2004, Hill suffered head injuries when he fell from a ladder at work, with another man falling on top of him.

He suffered damage to the frontal lobe of his brain, which left him with severe mood swings.

Mr Morrison added: “We need to find out if there is any medical impairment that is causing this compulsion.”

Judge Simon Hickey told Hill: “These are serious charges made more serious by the breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.”

Hill, who is on remand, will be back before the court at a date to be decided.
