Pervert handed himself in years after sex attack

Published July 20, 2013 by misty534

A predator who tried to rape a prostitute in Leeds has been jailed – after handing himself in nearly eight years later.

Wesley Walker evaded capture after his terrifying attack on the 20-year-old victim in September 2004.

He even slipped through the net when police got a DNA match following his arrest for an unrelated matter two years later.

But, extraordinarily, he walked into a police station in May last year and owned up to the assault after apparently wanting to clear his conscience.

He was jailed for three years at Leeds Crown Court.

Det Con Tom Eastwood, investigating officer for British Transport Police, said: “Eight long years after he committed the attack he handed himself into police.

“For eight years, the victim of his violent and degrading attack has had to live with the consequences of his actions, knowing her attacker has not been brought to justice.

“Walker’s behaviour and actions were despicable and something no-one should be subjected to.”

Walker, now 28 and of Lingfield Drive in Moortown, approached his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, on Marshall Street in Holbeck on September 30, 2004.

He took her to a path under a railway arch off Bath Road, where he grabbed and threatened her, before seriously sexually assaulting and attempting to rape her. He bit the victim a number of times on her breasts, buttocks and face during the attack before stealing her phone and fleeing.

Despite forensic analysis, a full area search, witness statements and CCTV footage, the investigation eventually hit a dead end.

In 2006, Walker was found to be a DNA match after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

But after offering no comment in interview, the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was insufficient evidence to charge him.

It was not until May 19 that Walker came clean.

Sentencing him the Recorder of Leeds, Judge Peter Collier QC, said Walker had been desperate to own up after speaking to doctors and counsellors. “It is apparent you became very keen to admit this matter,” he added.

Det Con Eastwood added: “What the victim in this case had to endure is absolutely unthinkable.”

Herald comment: Jeremy Forrest – neither a Romeo or a paedophile, but a naive, misguided man

Published June 28, 2013 by misty534

The Jeremy Forrest court case has divided opinion; from those who believe this was a classic Romeo & Juliet love story, to those who have branded the Bishop Bell maths teacher as a paedophile – a tale of a predator snaring his unsuspecting victim.

This story is neither.

Instead, this is a sad saga where there are victims across both sets of families who have clearly suffered over the past nine months from an ordeal which has made headlines worldwide.

One can have no sympathy for Jeremy Forrest who, as the judge, Michael Lawson QC, said when jailing the 30-year-old teacher to five-and-a-half years in prison, had ignored the cardinal rule of teaching by entering into a relationship with a pupil.

There can simply be no excuse, not just legally but morally.

There is little doubt that the relationship was consensual, and in likelihood will continue to flourish, but that does not make it right.

Forrest presents himself as a naive and immature individual whose life has been changed forever by his foolish actions.

Clearly there are lessons to be learned from this, particularly at Bishop Bell school and at other schools to where safeguarding pupils’ security is paramount.

Jeremy Forrest is no monster, no pervert, he is not a paedophile. He is a misguided man who will have plenty of time to think on his actions.

A SEXUAL predator who groomed children online has been jailed.

Tony Bradbury was arrested after meeting an undercover police officer who contacted him on Facebook posing as a teenage schoolgirl.

Bradbury, a 41-year-old taxi driver from Whitchurch Avenue, Exeter, was sentenced to three years and 10 months for a string of sexual offences.

Police fear there are more victims of Facebook sex attacker

Police believe there may be more victims of jailed sexual predator Tony Bradbury that have yet to come forward.

He pleaded guilty to offences of sexual contact with a child and attempted grooming. He arranged to meet a 13-year-old for sex after grooming her on the internet in Exeter on 12 December 2012.

He was eventually snared by police during a covert operation when a female officer, posing as a teenage schoolgirl, contacted him on Facebook.

Following the sentencing Det Sgt Brian Slade from the force’s child exploitation unit said: “Tony Bradbury has today been sentenced for offences including sexual activity with children, grooming of children and possessing and distributing pictures of child abuse.

“This has been a complicated and extensive enquiry. It has uncovered a number of children who are victims of Bradbury. This investigation demonstrates our commitment to find and convict those who are targeting both girls and boys on the internet. Bradbury used the internet to groom children and sexually abuse them online, he then went on to meet children and abuse them in person.

“We believe there may be other victims of Bradbury and we would encourage those who may have been a victim of abuse to come forward.”

At a previous court hearing the police revealed how Bradbury was trapped by the fake Facebook account.

He immediately took the bait and engaged in sexualised conversations with the “girl” called Holly James.

A court heard Bradbury told her he wanted to “take off her clothes and give her a massage”.

He later arranged to meet the girl at Exeter’s main railway station and when he got there police arrested him.

They searched his home and found indecent images of seven different girls and hundreds of other pornographic images.

On his digital camera they found photos of a 15-year-old girl posing in underwear and exposing her breasts and private parts.

Bradbury, from Exeter, asked girls on social networking sites to send him sexy photos of themselves showing off their breasts and asked one girl to strip and perform sex acts on herself, said prosecutor Edward Hetherington.

He admitted 22 sex-related charges, including sexual activity with a child, possessing and distributing indecent images, and inciting pornography.

Bradbury, who has no previous convictions, also admitted attempting to meet a 13-year-old for sex after grooming her on the internet.

Exeter Crown Court heard that Bradbury had become known to the police, who launched the covert operation to snare him.

Why was he free? Predatory paedophile from Portugal groomed and raped British girl, 12, before going on the run after police gave him bail and let him keep his passport

  • Antonio Pedro De Alves, 41, groomed West Midlands girl, 12, on Bebo
  • Predator had posed as boy, 15, and lured her to Staffordshire car park
  • Convicted in his absence at Stafford Crown Court rape trial last week

A Portuguese child rapist given bail and allowed to keep his passport while awaiting trial is on the run.

Antonio Pedro De Alves, 41, who had been living in Rugeley, Staffordshire, groomed a 12-year-old schoolgirl from the West Midlands by pretending to be a 15-year-old boy on social network Bebo.

He raped the girl after luring her to a supermarket car park – but was traced and arrested after the victim went to police. De Alves was due to stand trial for rape last week at Stafford Crown Court.

But he skipped bail and was convicted in his absence of raping a child aged under 13, reported the Birmingham Mail. An international arrest warrant is now being prepared to track down de Alves.

A friend of the victim’s family told the newspaper: ‘It beggars belief that a foreign national accused of raping a child was ever allowed out on bail while he faced such serious charges.

‘The family just cannot understand how this man was allowed bail by the courts and to keep his passport. The fear is that he has now fled abroad, probably back to Portugal.’

De Alves first contacted the girl on Bebo after posing as a sports-loving teenager, then groomed her online over a six-month period and eventually convinced her to meet him in Cannock, Staffordshire.

However when she arrived at the car park, de Alves claimed he was a relative of the boy and had been asked to meet her because the teenager was running late, reported the Birmingham Mail.

The girl was immediately suspicious and attempted to run – but de Alves pulled her into his car and attacked her. She reported the attack in December 2011 and he was arrested.

De Alves then appeared at court but was bailed. The two-day trial then took place last week and the victim gave evidence. The jury found him guilty of one rape charge but acquitted him of another.

A spokesman for West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service told the Birmingham Mail that the judge in the case had ordered that an international arrest warrant for de Alves be prepared in 14 days
